You can download pictures of the original code wheel at macintoshgarden.org and basically print out the 2 pieces, cut 'em out and make your own wheel.

I still can't get this game to run on my Classic Macs 'cause for some reason no text displays, etc.

I loved this game as a kid.

Does anyone have a copy of the code wheel? You only get two guesses at the letter every time you walk in.

I used to play this game for days on end, I'll have to look around, but I might still have the code wheel to get the game going.

I can not tell you how much I loved this game when I was a kid. One huge thing that I remember was that the type of weapon one of my PC's wielded influenced the range of their attack. Some weapons were long enough that I could stay out of reach of some attackers. Also, I seem to recall there were two ways to win the game. One by freeing the Princess (with the various wands scattered through the dungeon) or by killing the warlock (or whatever he was) and returning to the surface. The later is the only way I could win because I could never find all the wands. Also I seem to recall that during the end credits, there was strong hints to a sequel...that never happened. I think Postcraft was a font or page-layout company and Citadel was their first and only game.

I should be more specific in my questions... :-)
Which emulator are you using?
How did you get Citadel on it?
I assume you're using System 6, right?
http://download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/English-North_American/Macintosh/System/Older_System/System_6.0.x/

Thanks!

I loved playing Citadel! Thanks for a great article describing how it felt to play, it brings back memories. This summer, I came across my old copy of it:
http://nyquist.net/citadel.jpg
But I don't have a computer to play it on! Where/how did you get an emulator with Citadel on it?

Yes, I'm amazed at how good the graphics looked on these old game. Pixel art is such a skill. One pixel out of place and it looks awful, but get it right and you can express a lot in a 32x32 box.

"In Citadel, Little Bo Beep herself can lead my party, something that would be impossible in Fallout"

i remember all those half-hearted attempts at DRM -- basically instead of locking you out of a game, they just mildly inconvenienced you for a few moments.

also there's just something about these old mac games, they looked so tiny and detailed on that little screen, and they worked and played in their own special way thanks to the look-and-feel of the OS. good stuff!
